I make art to inspire…
• a sense of wonder and appreciation in the natural world around us.
• empathy for all creatures great and small.
• a return to that childhood place of curiosity
and imaginative stories.
Through my art, I hope to awaken memories forgotten from childhood, a sense of wonder when you explore outside, when our eyes sparkled with whimsy and wonderment. It is also my hope that, when you gaze at my work, you see stories; you see personality; and you see and build an appreciation for a world often missed unless you stop for a moment to peer a bit closer and for a bit longer.
I mainly work in ink, watercolor and colored pencil. One of my favorite new mediums is the simple ballpoint pen you find lying around or stuffed in random drawers.
Each piece is begun without knowledge of what the end product will be. I allow the work and my creative intuition to be my guide until there is a sense of completion. It is when I make art that I allow myself to start with a “mess” and lots of unknowns . . . and I keep working that mess as a child at play until it’s transformed into a completed piece.
May you find a way to make a mess and play like a child! And may you feel inspired to explore your own backyard and appreciate all things great and small.
